So we just spent the weekend in a wonderful 2015 GMC Yukon rental, and that alone has made my parents decide on the type of vehicle they will be in the market for next month. They're considering a second hand Tahoe/Yukon or Ford Expedition in between 2003 and 2006 frankly so they can pay the sucker off in one go.
My stance: Tahoe
I have a hunch my parents will pick the Ford, we're a Ford family so I won't be surprised, but I've been a fan of the GMT's of that era since ever since chassis spawned the H2. If I picked one of Fords Monstrosity I would pick the King truck, Sir Excursion himself.
The Yukon was a perfect blend for my family's needs. Space for five Adults, space for our crap, and space to wiggle. I see the appeal now.

Tahoe. The Expedition of that era weren't the best especially with high mileage.
sm70- why not Duesenberg?

Expedition gets my vote, because while this is okay:
this is not:

Power train wise, Chevy all the way.

I am not a GM fan by any means but I would go with a Tahoe primarily for the drivetrain. Those LS motors can take a beating and run forever. The Expeditions had spark plugs that blew out of the heads and the trannies are flaky.

If they go Expedition make sure there is a comprehensive service record showing good maintenance of the 5.4, if they go with that motor. It liked to blow plugs out of the block and it had weak heads. But if one was taken care of they are nice trucks. Also if they can find a reasonably priced and lowish mileage 05-06 Navigator, that is a nicer option than the Expedition mainly because air springs, but that opens a different can of worms, but most common failure is the air compressor and that is a relatively cheap and easy fix.

Powertrain on the GM is solid but if you get one of that era, check the brake, A/C and fuel lines carefully for corrosion. We had issues with the first two on both our 06 and 2010 Yukon.

My aunt and uncles made it to within spitting distance of 200k miles before the transmission needed a rebuild, 5.4 was still ticking. They were good about maintenance, so that helped.

Besides the color, what's the difference?

I know right? That's quite an impressive amount of miles! Like many other Fords.

Ford me, the Expedition just looks like it is screwed together a tiny bit better. For example, on the airbag cover and glovebox, look at the difference in panel gaps.

If you have more than 4 people in the family, or intend to have more than three as passengers, the Ford is the only way to go. With it's IRS, the back seats are far more hospitable than the Chevy's, as the Tahoe rear most seats have much less room, as it has to clear the rear differential, whereas the Ford doesn't have this problem. I'd find the lowest mileage example I'd could, and make sure it has all maintenance records.
